PureLink Case Study: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA
Description

Within its newly built Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center transformed one floor of the three-story, 26,000-square-foot building in to a state-of-the-art Operating Room and Trauma Processing Simulation Center. The Simulation Center plays a critical role in training doctors and nurses for the real-life situations encountered every day, resulting in a more efficient medical environment.

“Sometimes, in the practical world, we cannot duplicate real-life situations. Therefore, Cedars-Sinai created this Simulation Center, so that nurses and doctors can learn from their mistakes,” said Thavaro Soeur, Media Engineer and Project Manager for the AHSP A/V integration project at Cedars-Sinai. The Simulation Center contains two operating rooms, seven training rooms, one surgical skill room, and three debriefing rooms. It also provides two control rooms with four monitoring stations, as well as a master control room that processes signals from the entire network, with video routing and distribution powered by a large-scale PureLink PureMedia™ Cross-Platform Modular Matrix Switching System.

THE CHALLENGE

The original A/V system did not meet the fully interactive and immersive training needs of the new, high-tech facility. Presented with the challenge of maximizing the capabilities of the new facility, while preserving as much of the legacy equipment as possible, Soeur and his team worked in collaboration with Level 3 Audio Visual, a full service audio-visual provider based in Mesa, AZ., as well as James Pitts of Media Management, an audiovisual design/build services firm based in Dallas, TX, to design a backwards-compatible, user-friendly A/V system. In addition, Soeur only had three months to complete the project before the opening of the Simulation Center, as well as a limited budget for the equipment and A/V system integration.

PURELINK TO THE RESCUE!

PureLink’s PureMedia Cross-Platform Modular Matrix Routers and Extenders offered the only large-scale, multi-platform, ultra-fast HD Video signal routing solution, without the need for cluttering and costly supplementary devices. Optional Ultra HD capability, hot-swappable input/output cards, and router-based audio matrix routing further distanced PureMedia™ from the competition, offering state-of-the-art reliability, performance, and flexibility. PureLink worked closely with the engineering team at Cedars-Sinai right from the design and planning stage, crafting a solution completely customized for every requirement of this critical project. “I didn’t feel the commitment from the other manufacturers as I did with PureLink. Their support was first class,” said Soeur.
