About Amec Foster Wheeler

AMEC is a British consultancy, engineering and project management company headquartered in London, England. With offices in over 55 countries worldwide and roughly 30,000 employees, the company serves customers in the oil and gas, minerals and metals, clean energy, environment, and infrastructure markets.

Challenge

AMEC wanted to outfit their new Houston office conference and training rooms with easy-to-use AV equipment that enabled both HDMI and VGA. The system had to be intuitive, one-hundred percent reliable and all products needed to be out of sight.

Solution

IAV, the professional integrator, designed sleek, no-nonsense systems for three different parts of the building: the training room, the executive conference room and 23 smaller conference/training rooms. Each room has a simple system that accesses the necessary digital technology with the push of a button without having to adjust projectors or resize screens. And there are no poor quality images.

The 30-seat primary training room inherited equipment from the executive conference room. This included a smart tablet for annotating images, two ceiling-mounted projectors and Kramer VGA and HDMI cables inside a custom podium. Twenty-three smaller conference/training rooms were outfitted with identical systems. Each included either a Kramer VP-434 or VP-435 scaler connected by Kramer VGA and HDMI cables. The scaler converted the selected video signal to a computer graphics or HDTV output resolution. The HDMI output signal was transmitted to the projector via CAT 5 cables.

Existing cable in most of the rooms saved the considerable expense of rewiring. All hardware was housed under the conference room tables to create a sleek and professional installation with reduced clutter. The AMEC executive conference room features an under-the-table mounted VP-435 ProScale Digital Scaler and a Kramer FC-46 audio de-embedder for audio conferencing.

Results

“They didn’t want a control system or a confusing bunch of products, so we designed a simple, intuitive system with easy-to-use Kramer products. We were very conscious of having no clutter on the table. The Kramer under-the-table mounted units and especially the cables helped us achieve that,” said Tom Austin of Industrial Audio/Video Inc.
